We tried and ranked 9 of the most popular sugar-free and keto maple flavored syrups to go with your pancakes, desserts and more!

Images of sugar-free maple syrups on a table after taste test.

With so many sugar-free pancake syrups on the market (a wonderful thing!), it can be hard to determine which option is best for you. Some keto syrups are runny, don’t taste quite right, or include less-than-ideal ingredients.

We bought and tried nine sugar-free and keto syrup brands, all available on Amazon or at select large grocery stores. While taste was our primary ranking factor, we also considered syrup consistency, ingredients, net carbs, cost, and availability.

Although none of the sugar-free or keto syrups are exact replicas of regular maple syrup, several taste similar to maple syrup and are decent in flavor. Each syrup, however, comes with its own positives and negatives.

To help with decision-making, we’ve listed the net carbs, ingredients, Amazon rating, and pros and cons of each sugar-free syrup. Below is our ranking of the best low-carb and keto-friendly breakfast syrups.

Review of Sugar-Free & Keto Maple Flavored Syrups

    1. Smuckers Sugar Free Breakfast Syrup

Image of Smuckers sugar free syrup

Smuckers sugar-free syrup is a sweet, buttery syrup that is thicker in consistency, similar to regular syrup. And although the flavor is more buttery, it's a tasty syrup (my son's favorite) that pours like maple syrup. It also gets the highest reviews on Amazon, compared to others in this list. The ingredients do include additives and sucralose, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet. We haven't seen it at stores yet, but it's probably just a matter of time given that it's Smuckers.

Net carbs: 1 gram net carbs per ¼ cup

Ingredients: Water, Sorbitol, Contains 2% Or Less Of: Cellulose Gum, Salt, Caramel Color, Xanthan Gum, Sorbic Acid And Sodium Benzoate (Preservatives), Acesulfame Potassium (Non Nutritive Sweetener), Natural And Artificial Flavor, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Phosphoric Acid, Sucralose (Non Nutritive Sweetener).

Amazon Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars

    PROS:

    • Sweet, tasty syrup that is more buttery flavor (as opposed to maple)
    • Thicker syrup, similar consistency to regular syrup

    CONS:

    • Ingredients include several additives, preservatives and sucralose, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet
    • Somewhat expensive: $12 for 29 ounces ($0.41 / Fl Oz) on Amazon
    • Not available at larger grocers, but can order from Amazon

    2. Sweet Mountain Sugar-Free Maple Taste Syrup

It terms of taste, Sweet Mountain sugar-free syrup is one of the best in this review since it tastes the most similar to regular maple syrup. It's also the lowest in carbs at 0 grams net carbs per 2 tablespoons. The biggest drawback, though, is the syrup's runny consistency. If you can live with that, then it's a great option. However, the ingredients do include additives and sucralose, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet.

Net Carbs: 0 grams net carbs per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Water, Cellulose Gum, Natural and Artificial Maple Flavor, Salt, Sucralose, Sodium, Hexametaphosphate, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid, Sodium Bisulfate

Amazon Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

    PROS:

    • Tastes similar to real maple syrup (best flavor)
    • 0 grams net carb and 0 calories per serving

    CONS:

    • Quite runny; thinner than most other syrups on this list
    • Ingredients include several additives and sucralose, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet
    • Somewhat expensive: $19.99 for 34 ounces ($0.59 / Fl Oz) on Amazon
    • Not available at major stores, but available on Amazon

    3. Maple Grove Farms Sugar-Free Syrup (Original Flavor)

Image of Maple Grove Farms sugar free syrup

Maple Grove Farms sugar-free syrup is a tasty and balanced maple-flavored syrup that has just a slight aftertaste. It's not a thicker syrup, but it's also not as thin as several of the other syrups in this review. The ingredients do include additives and sucralose, which may not be appropriate for some on a strict keto keto. It's one of the cheapest syrups on this list at 13 cents per fluid ounce.

Net Carbs: 1 gram net carb per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Water, Sorbitol, Cellulose Gum, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Salt, Caramel Color, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (to Preserve Freshness), Sucralose, Phosphoric Acid, Acesulfame Potassium, Aspartame, Citric Acid. Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine

Amazon Rating: 4.6 out of 5 stars

    PROS:

    • Good, balanced flavor with slight aftertaste; somewhat similar flavor to maple syrup
    • Decent consistency (not too runny) but not a thicker syrup
    • Decent price: $39 for 144 ounces ($0.13 / Fl Oz)

    CONS:

    4. Vermont Sugar Free Syrup (by Maple Grove Farms)

Image of Vermont Sugar Free Syrup

Vermont sugar-free syrup use to be a staple in our house for some time. It's a decent tasting sugar-free syrup with sweet honey undertones. However, since it's quite runny, the flavor can get a little lost on pancakes. Like several of the best-tasting syrups on this list, the ingredients do include additives and aspartame, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet. However, it's very low in net carbs at 1 gram per ¼ cup.

Net Carbs: 1 gram net carb per ¼ cup

Ingredients: Water, sorbitol, cellulose gum, natural and artificial flavors, salt, caramel color, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), sucralose, phosphoric acid, acesulfame potassium, aspartame, citric acid

    • Flavor seems to get lost on pancakes
    • Not available at major stores, but available on Amazon

    5. ChocZero Sugar-Free Maple Syrup

Image of ChocZero Sugar Free Maple Syrup

ChocZero makes a decent-tasting sugar-free syrup that's made with keto-friendly ingredients. However, we thought the syrup tasted more like caramel than maple (ChocZero does also make a caramel syrup, which is probably pretty tasty). It's also a thicker syrup with minimal to no aftertaste. The syrup gets many positive reviews on Amazon and it comes in different flavors like maple pecan and chocolate.

Net Carbs: 1 gram net carb per 1 tablespoon

Ingredients: Soluble Corn Fiber (Non-GMO Resistant Dextrin), Natural Maple Flavor, Natural Caramel Color, Monk Fruit Extract

Amazon Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

    • Decent keto-friendly ingredients
    • Decent thicker syrup

    CONS:

    • Syrup tastes more similar to caramel than maple
    • Somewhat expensive: $9.75 per 12 ounces ($0.81 / Ounce) on Amazon
    • Not available at major stores, but available on Amazon

    6. Birch Benders Keto Maple Flavored Syrup

Image of Birch Benders Sugar Free Maple Syrup

Since Birch Benders makes a variety of keto-friendly pancake mixes, we were quite excited to try their sugar-free maple syrup. Upon tasting, we thought it tasted more similar to butterscotch than maple syrup. It's also quite sweet, which could be a positive or negative aspect for some people. It's somewhat thicker in consistency and has decent, keto-friendly ingredients. It's now sold at several larger grocers like Kroger and Safeway.

Net carbs: 1 gram net carbs per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Water, Soluble Corn Fiber, Natural Flavor, Fruit Juice (for color), Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Monk Fruit Extract, Citrus Extract (to preserve freshness), Tartaric Acid, Citric Acid.

Amazon Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

    Pros:

    • Decent keto-friendly ingredients
    • Slightly thicker consistency (but comes off watery in taste)
    • Now sold at some larger grocers like Kroger and Safeway (in addition to Amazon)

    Cons:

    • Stronger artificial flavor that tastes more like butterscotch; very sweet
    • Somewhat expensive: $10.74 for 13 ounces ($0.83 / Fl Oz) on Amazon

    7. Pyure Zero Sugar Maple Flavored Syrup

Image of Pyure sugar free syrup

Although Pyure syrup is made with decent keto-friendly ingredients, we found the flavor to be somewhat bitter with fruity undertones (as opposed to maple). It also has a thin, watery consistency. That said, it still gets decent decent reviews on Amazon and is low in carbs.

Net carbs: 2 grams of net carbs per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Water, Organic Soluble Tapioca Fiber, Organic Erythritol, Contains 2 Percent or Less of Natural Flavor, Xantham Gum, Gum Arabic, Sodium Alginate, Organic Caramel Color, Organic Stevia Leaf Extract (REB A), Tartaric Acid

    • Somewhat expensive: $9.32 for 14 ounces ($0.67 / Fl Oz) on Amazon
    • Not available at many larger grocers, but available on Amazon

    8. Lakanto Sugar Free Maple Flavored Syrup

    Image of Lakanto sugar-free syrup

Lakanto use to be our syrup of choice several years ago since it's a decent maple-flavored syrup with keto-friendly ingredients. However, it does come with a chemical-like aftertaste and is quite runny in consistency. It's more widely available as it's sold at several larger grocers like Kroger and Whole foods, which is convenient.

Net carbs: 1 gram of net carbs per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Purified Water, Tapioca Fiber, Non-GMO Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener (Erythritol and Monk Fruit Extract), Vegetable Glycerin, Natural Flavors, Cellulose Gum, Sea Salt, Fruit Juice (Color), Natural Citrus Extract (Preservative)

Amazon rating: 4.3 out of 5 stars

    Pros:

    • Decent keto-friendly ingredients
    • Now available at some larger grocers like Whole Foods and Kroger

    Cons:

    • Maple in flavor but comes with some chemical aftertaste
    • Thin, runny consistency
    • Somewhat expensive: $9.79 for 13 ounces ($0.75 / Ounce) on Amazon

    9. Wholesome Yum Zero Sugar Maple Flavored Syrup

Image of Wholesum Yum sugar free syrup

With many positive Amazon reviews, we were hoping to like this syrup more than we did. Unfortunately, we found the syrup to be quite sweet with a chemical-like aftertaste. However, it did have maple undertones and was slightly thicker in consistency. Even though it's low in carbs, the ingredients include vegetable glycerin, which may not be appropriate for some on a strict keto diet. This is the most expensive syrup in our review.

Net carbs: 2 grams of net carbs per 2 tablespoons

Ingredients: Besti Monk Fruit Allulose Blend (Allulose, Monk Fruit Extract), Vegetable Glycerin, Natural Flavors

Amazon rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars

    Pros:

    • Not too runny, but not as thick as regular syrup

    Cons:

    • Very sweet maple-flavored syrup that comes with stronger chemical aftertaste
    • Ingredients include vegetable glycerin, which may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet
    • Expensive: $17.99 ($1.50 / Fl Oz) for 12 ounces on Amazon
    • Not available at many larger grocers, but available on Amazon
