We tried and ranked the most popular sugar-free, low-carb and keto cake mixes to determine the best mix you can buy at the store or online.

We love seeing all the sugar-free and keto-friendly cake mixes at the store or on Amazon! It just makes life easier when you can buy a cake mix that's simple to make and fits your diet, especially when your hankering for something sweet.
Most grocers now sell keto and sugar-free cake mixes by the big brands, like Pillsbury or Duncan Hines. For the smaller brands, like Good Dee's or Fitbake, you'll likely need to purchase from Amazon or another online site
In this review, we personally tried and tested 9 sugar-free and keto cakes mixes, which can be found on Amazon or at larger grocers. To make a more uniform comparison, we bought a basic yellow or vanilla flavor for this review. We then prepared them as cupcakes so we could easily make and test cakes across brands.
Although none of these sugar-free and keto cake mixes taste like regular cake mixes, there was a clear winner that produced a tasty cake. Beyond taste, we also analyzed net carbs, ingredients, and pros and cons of each cake mix.
Here is our ranking of the best sugar-free, low-carb and keto-friendly cake mixes. If you've tried any of these, we'd love to hear your feedback!
BEST STORE-BOUGHT SUGAR-FREE & KETO CAKE MIXES
1. Swerve Yellow Cake Mix

In terms of taste, Swerve cake mix is easily the winner in this review. Of all the cake mixes here, Swerve cake mix is most similar in taste to regular cake. It's moist and sweet with minimal aftertaste from the sweetener. Plus, it's now sold at many large grocers. The ingredients are decent with the exception of tapioca starch, which is not keto-friendly. But, even with that, each slice of cake is still 3 grams of net carbs. To make, you'll need water, eggs, oil and vanilla extract.
Net carbs: 3 grams net carbs per slice
Calories: 160 calories per serving (prepared)

3. Fitbake Yellow Cake Baking Mix
Fitbake yellow cake mix is a little different from the others in this review since you need to add yogurt or sour cream to the cake mix to make (in addition or water and eggs). The added yogurt or sour cream produces a moist cake that is slightly sour in flavor. There is a slight aftertaste from the sweetener blend (as it's the first ingredient). However, the mix uses quality, keto-friendly ingredients and is low in calories (just 90 grams per prepared serving) and net carbs (2 grams).

4. Impact Keto Vanilla Cake Mix

If you're gluten-free, then you'll need to skip this cake mix since it contains wheat gluten. But, all the ingredients are keto-friendly and each serving is only 2 grams of net carbs. Although the cake mix produces a moist cake, the cake tastes more like angel food cake. It's also little bland in flavor. To make, you'll need oil, almond milk, eggs and vanilla extract. You can get it on Amazon, but it is pricey.
Net carbs: 2 grams net carbs per serving

5. Duncan Hines Keto Friendly Yellow Cake Mix

Duncan Hines keto-friendly cake is now sold at many large grocers for a decent price. Unfortunately, the yellow cake mix tasted more like coconut in flavor, which isn't bad, but not what we were expecting. Although the cake is moist, it's a little grainy in texture. The ingredients are keto-friendly, but this cake is a little higher in carbs and calories (compared to others in this list). To make the cake, you'll need water, coconut oil and eggs.
Net carbs: 4 grams net carbs per serving

6. King Arthur Keto Yellow Cake Mix

We're happy to see that King Arthur is making more keto products. Their cake mix is different in that it uses no almond flour (which is good for those who are nut-free). The yellow cake mix produces a moist cake that tastes more like angel food cake in flavor (which wasn't too bad). It's a little grainy in texture but it's made with quality keto-friendly ingredients. You'll need 5 eggs, almond milk and oil to make the cake. Price isn't too bad at $6 a box.

7. Scotty's Keto Cupcake and Cake Mix
Scotty's keto products are typically higher in fiber, which make them very low in carbs. And because of that, their cake mix is zero net carbs (the only one on this list at zero). However, the cake is more similar to bread in terms of texture. In fact, the cake tastes more like a sweet bread or roll. And it would make a tasty sweet bread, if that's what you were looking for (but not cake). That said, the ingredients are keto friendly and it's low in calories. To make, you'll need water, butter, eggs and vanilla extract.

Net carbs: 0 net carbs per serving

8. Birch Benders Keto Classic Yellow Cake Mix

Birch Benders cake mix is now being sold at many larger grocers. Their mix produces a moist cake, but the cake tastes more like breakfast muffin. The flavor isn't bad, but it is somewhat bland and there is a slight aftertaste from the sweetener. It's a little higher in net carbs (5 net carbs per serving) and the ingredients include cassava starch (which may explain the the higher net carbs). To make the cake, you'll need oil, water and eggs.

9. Lakanto Sugar Free Keto Cake Mix
We had high hopes for Lakanto since we like several of their products, but, unfortunately, the flavor and texture of the cake were off for us. The cake turned out dry, a little grainy and was somewhat bland in flavor. It also had a slight aftertaste from the sweetener. That said, the cake is made with quality, keto-friendly ingredients and is only 1 net carb per serving. To make, you'll need water, oil, eggs and vanilla extract.
