You'll love these chewy protein marshmallow treats, which are an easy and delicious no-bake snack made with high-protein cereal and sugar-free marshmallows.

If you love classic marshmallow treats but wish they were healthier, then these are for you! They’re gooey, sweet, and nostalgic, but with a better protein-to-calorie ratio, thanks to the high-protein Magic Spoon cereal.

Since we use Fruity Magic Spoon cereal, they’re not your typical rice crispy treats (and honestly, they’re not trying to be). They're more like Froot Loop marshmallow treats, and are just as delicious. We had to make back-to-back batches since we gobbled them all up!

Plus, they come together fast, use only a few ingredients, and taste like real fruity marshmallow treats. And they’re the perfect way to sneak in a little extra protein when cravings hit!

    Ingredient Notes

Fruity Magic Spoon Protein Cereal: This cereal is key to the protein boost (13g protein per cup)! We recommend the fruity flavor since it's our favorite. We haven't tried other flavors in these marshmallow treats, but they'd likely work just as well. Let us know if you do!

ChocZero Marshmallows: Our favorite sugar-free marshmallows that taste and melt similar regular marshmallows!

Butter: Although butter decreases the percent of protein, it's critical for creating the right consistency in these treats. While you can’t skip it completely, you could reduce to 3 tablespoons.

    Preparation Steps

Melt the marshmallows: In a large pot over low heat, melt 3 tablespoons butter. Add ChocZero marshmallows and stir continuously. The mixture may start to clump together and form a stiff ball, which is normal. When it becomes too thick to stir easily, add 1 more tablespoon butter and keep stirring until the marshmallows are melted or nearly melted.

Add cereal: Quickly stir in 5 ¼ cups Magic Spoon cereal (one full box) until well combined. Press the mixture into a parchment-lined or greased 8x8-inch pan. Flatten it evenly using a silicone spatula.

Let set: Let cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cutting. You can also chill the pan in the fridge to set faster.

    Expert Tips

    • Use low heat: Melt slowly to keep the marshmallows soft and stretchy instead of grainy.
    • Stir continuously: Keep stirring as the marshmallows melt so they stay smooth and don’t burn. The mixture may start to clump together and form a stiff ball — that’s when you add a little more butter to loosen up.
    • Work quickly: Once the marshmallows are melted, stir in the cereal right away before the mixture gets too stiff to mix,
    • Flatten with a silicone spatula: It prevents sticking and helps you press the bars into an even layer.

    How to Store

Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the fridge for up to a week. If refrigerated, let them sit out for a few minutes before serving so they soften back up.
