Here is a list of our favorite high-protein snacks to buy at the store or online for when you go traveling!

High-protein snacks are ideal when traveling since they help you stay satiated for longer periods of time, making you less likely to overeat between meals. Plus, protein is key to helping you to maintain and increase muscle mass!
What is High Protein?
There is some variation in what percentage is considered "high protein" but generally 20% to 40% of calories coming from protein can be considered high. Wikipedia defines a high-protein meal or diet as more than 20 percent of calories from protein, while Diet Doctor uses 25 percent to 35 percent of calories from protein.

SUGAR-FREE JERKY

Jerky (meat trimmed of fat and dried) is a great high protein snack that's easy to pack. We prefer zero-sugar jerky, but you can consider other low-carb options as long as you check the nutrition for ingredients and carbs. Our favorite beef jerky is Tillamook Zero-Sugar Beef Jerky, which is 90 calories per serving and 24 percent of calories (13 grams) come from protein.
ROASTED EDAMAME

We love these crunchy roasted edamame snacks because they hit that perfect balance of high-protein, high-fiber, and low-carb. The texture is crunchy and crispy, and the simple flavor of sea salt keeps it light and salty.
Each ⅓ cup serving is about 114 calories with 14 g of plant-based protein, 5g fiber, and only 2 g net carbs.
ONE Reese’s Peanut Butter Lovers Protein Bar

If you’re looking for a protein bar that genuinely feels like a treat (and not some chalky, chewy bar), this ONE Reese’s bar might be your new go-to. It's so good you might even forget you're eating a high-protein bar since it tastes so similar to Reese's Pieces.
Each bar has 18g of protein and 3g of sugar to help keep you going between meals. It can also double as a post-workout snack or a quick treat when you’re craving something sweet.
Ready-to-Eat Tuna Packs

You can find these flavorful, take-and-go StarKist Tuna Creations at most grocers, which are light and easy to pack in a bag or purse. These ready-to-eat packets come in a variety of flavors, but just be sure to check the nutrition on each as some include sugar or other unfavorable ingredients. This lemon pepper tuna is just 80 calories per serving, and 30 percent of calories (17 grams) come from protein.
Ready-to-Eat Salmon Packs

Similar to the above ready-to-eat tuna, you can also get ready-to-eat salmon packs. Starkist and Chicken of the Sea make flavored salmon packets including lemon dill salmon and lemon and chive salmon. As always, be sure to check the nutrition on each as some flavors may include sugar or other unfavorable ingredients. This lemon dill salmon is just 70 calories per serving and 23 percent of calories (13 grams) come from protein.
QUEST CHEESE CRACKERS

Our favorite high-protein, low-carb crackers are these cheese crackers by Quest. They're crunchy, full of cheese flavor, high in protein and low in carbs. Even though they're tasty for a high-protein cracker, don't go expecting them to be Cheez-Its (although they are somewhat similar). You can typically find the above box of individual bags at Target or some larger grocers. Each individual bag is 130 calories with 20 percent of calories (10 grams) coming from protein.
Quest Tortilla Protein Chips

Quest chips are of one of the best low-carb, high-protein tortilla chips on the market. The nacho cheese flavor (our favorite) is pretty tasty (but don't go expecting Doritos) and can be found at most large grocers. Like other high-protein chips, these chips start off crispy, but end with a slightly powdery texture. They're ideal when you're craving something salty or crunchy. Each serving is 150 calories and 36 percent (18 grams) of those calories come from protein.
ATKINS PROTEIN CHIPS

If you love barbeque chips, then you may like these bbq protein chips by Atkins. These chips are light and crispy with a tasty bbq flavor. If you don't like bbq, Atkins also sells nacho cheese and ranch flavors (which aren't too bad). And like other protein chips, these chips start off crispy and end with a slightly powdery texture.
Not all grocers carry these chips, but you can find them at some Target or Kroger stores. One serving-size bag is 140 calories and 13 grams of protein, which is 26 percent protein.
Legendary Foods Protein Cinnamon Roll

Legendary Foods makes a bunch of high-protein products, and this one’s a favorite for taste. It’s similar to a cinnamon roll with a scone-like texture. Like most high-protein snacks, there’s a bit of a strange aftertaste, and they’re a little on the pricey side. But they’re super convenient for a quick breakfast. Just heat in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds and you’re good to go.
Each cinnamon roll has 22g of protein, 7 net carbs, and 230 calories. You can grab get them on Amazon or at Target.
Cottage Cheese

Good Culture is one of our favorite brands of cottage cheese and now you can buy it individual serving-size containers for travel. We love eating cottage cheese just plain, but you can add some toppings if you like.
If you buy cottage cheese slightly lower in fat, then the protein percentage will be slightly higher. However, you can still buy full-fat cottage cheese and it will be high in protein. Each 5.3-ounce container of this has 140 calories with 19 grams of protein, which means 38 percent of calories come from protein. Just know that cottage cheese can't sit out of the fridge for a long period of time and that you need a spoon to eat it!
Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is a healthy high-protein snack that you can find almost anywhere. We typically buy FAGE, but you can buy any sugar-free Greek yogurt of choice. Both zero percent and 5 percent milk-fat Greek yogurt are high in protein (although the zero percent is slightly higher), but the 5 percent yogurt has double the calories.
Each 6-ounce container of 0% Greek yogurt has 80 calories and 16 grams of protein, which means 31 percent of calories come from protein. And just like cottage cheese, yogurt can't sit out of the fridge for too long and you'll need a spoon to eat it!
