Some say Rao’s is the best jarred pasta sauce there ever was (case in point: Bon Appetit). You know what? We have to agree.
First off, it really does taste just as good as homemade sauce (or almost as good, depending on the chef). Second, you likely won’t find a pasta sauce with less carbs it. That’s because it’s made with simple, high-quality ingredients and doesn’t include any added sugars or preservatives. The ingredients are simply: tomatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, onions, garlic, basil, and oregano. The total carbs are 4 grams per ½ cup.
The only drawback with Rao’s is the cost. It’s much more expensive than other sauces at roughly $7 or $8 for a 24-ounce jar. However, we’ve found that different grocers will regularly put the 24-ounce jars on sale for as low as $5.99 or $6.99. We've heard that Costco carries Rao’s, but we haven’t seen it there in our area. If you can get it on sale, the sauce is worth it!
