Images of different brands of keto pancake mixes

Let's face it: it's hard to make keto or low-carb pancakes taste like the real deal. And, even though there are more keto pancake mixes hitting the market, most aren't there yet in terms of taste or ingredients.

We bought nine different brands of low-carb and keto pancake mixes and evaluated each of them on net carbs, ingredients, and, of course, taste.

Below is our review and ranking of some of the top keto pancake mixes in the market. Please take this review with a grain of salt since it includes our personal opinions! We'd love to hear your feedback on any keto pancakes the comments below!

    1. Good Dee's Pancakes & More Baking Mix

Image of Good Dee's bag of pancakes

Good Dee's Pancake Mix was the best-tasting pancake mix in this review. But, as mentioned, don't expect these pancakes to taste like regular pancakes. The pancakes are a little bland, but are decent when served with sugar-free syrup. To prepare, you need egg, heavy cream (or milk), butter (or coconut oil) and vanilla extract. Some Amazon reviewers were put off by the additional ingredients since they thought it would be just as easy (and cheaper) to make homemade keto pancakes. The ingredients are decent but the baking powder does include tapioca starch, which is likely a minimal amount since it's lower in the list of ingredients. But, if you're strict keto, then you may want to assess. *Note: Good Dee's sells more than one type of pancake mix, so be sure to check package.

Net carbs: 1 gram net carbs for mix (18 grams); 1 gram net carbs with added ingredients
Amazon Rating: 4.1 out of 5 total stars

Ingredients: Almond Flour, Allulose, Corn-Free Baking Powder (Sodium Acid Phyrophosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Tapioca Starch, Calcium Phosphate ) and Salt.

    Pros:

    • Decent flavor for a keto-friendly pancake (although still a little bland)
    • Decent texture, somewhat similar to regular pancakes

    Cons:

    • More dense than light and fluffy
    • Expensive: $12.99 for 7.8 ounces on Amazon

    2. Carbquik Biscuit & Pancake Mix

    Image of Carbquik box

Carbquik pancake batter looks and feels like a regular pancake batter. The pancake mixture is made from proprietary flour that acts like wheat and is made from wheat, but selectively uses fibrous ingredients like enzyme enriched wheat, vital wheat gluten, and oat fiber. The pancake recipe on the back of the box calls for egg, ⅛ cup heavy cream, 1 ⅜ cup water and one stick of butter. This recipe was more labor intensive than most other pancakes mixes in this review. The mixture doesn't include any sugar alcohol, so if you're sensitive to sugar alcohols that may be a positive aspect. If you're strict keto you should be aware that the ingredients include various wheat components, buttermilk, canola/sunflower oil.

Net carbs: 2 grams net carbs for mix (32 grams); 2 grams net carbs with added ingredients
Amazon Rating: 4.4 out of 5 total stars (this rating may be due to recipes other than pancakes)

Ingredients: Carbalose flour: enzyme enriched wheat, vital wheat gluten, oat fiber, high protein patent wheat flour, palm oil flakes, buttermilk, soy fiber, wheat starch, canola and/or sunflower oil, salt, emulsifiers, enzymes, ascorbic acid, baking powder (aluminum-free), egg whites, salt, natural flavor.

    Pros

    • Batter similar to regular pancake mix
    • Not too grainy
    • No strange aftertaste

    Cons

    • Box recipe produces greasy and oily pancakes that are thin and delicate
    • Pancake recipe on box more intensive than other recipes in review.
    • Somewhat bland, slightly eggy in flavor; no sweetness

    3. Scotty's Keto Pancake & Waffle Mix

Image of Scotty's bag of pancakes

Scotty makes a high-in-fiber pancake mix that ends up being zero grams in net carbs. High-fiber ingredients include resistant tapioca starch (zero carbs), chicory inulin and psyllium husk. It also contains no nut flours, which is beneficial to those who may be allergic to nuts. To make the pancakes, you need to add water, egg and vanilla extract. The batter turns thick and sticky, which is difficult when making pancakes. We found the pancakes dry and dense and quite bland in flavor. However, the ingredients are low in carbs and keto-friendly.

Net carbs: 0 grams net carbs for mix (32 grams) and finished pancakes with added ingredients
Amazon rating: 4.2 out of 5 total stars

Ingredients: Resistant tapioca starch, erythritol, chicory inulin, psyllium husk, flax seed, baking powder (sodium bicarbonate, monocalcium phosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate), modified cellulose, sea salt.

    Pros:

    • Lowest in net carbs (zero grams net carbs)
    • If allergic to nuts, this pancake mix is nut-free
    • Decent ingredients

    Cons:

    • Bland in flavor
    • Dense, dry, and chalky
    • Expensive: $11.99 for a 9 ounces on Amazon

    4. King Arthur Keto Wheat Pancake Mix

Image of King Arthur bag of pancakes

King Arthur makes an interesting pancake mix that resembles bread. To make it, you simply add water and it thickens and turns into an elastic-type, doughy batter. Because of that, we found it a little hard to make into pancakes. When done, the pancakes were nice and smooth in texture, but were somewhat bland and bread-like in flavor. Obviously, they're better with syrup, which definitely helped. Some ingredients, like modified wheat starch, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets

Net carbs: 2 grans net carbs for mix (34 grams) and finished pancakes
Amazon rating: 4.3 out of 5 total stars

Ingredients: Modified wheat starch, vital wheat gluten, erythritrol, sunflower oil, egg whites, natural flavor, baking powder (baking soda, calcium acid pyrophosphate, monocalcium phosphate), eggs, sea salt, steviol glycosides.

    Pros:

    • Only additional ingredient is water
    • Low in carbs (2 grams net carbs per serving)
    • Highest percentage of calories from protein (45%) of the pancakes tested in this review
    • Smooth texture; the least grainy in terms of texture

    Cons:

    • Taste is bland and slightly sour; more bread-like in flavor
    • Thick, elastic-like batter that's similar to bread dough
    • Some ingredients, like modified wheat starch, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets
    • Expensive: $12.19 for 12 ounces on Amazon

    5. Simple Truth Keto Pancake Mix with Chocolate Chips

Image of Simple Truth bag of pancakes

These keto pancakes start off decent on first bite, but they end bland and have somewhat of a strange aftertaste. We like the chocolate chips, but there were too many in the batter, which made it thick and hard to cook. Although we like the idea of chocolate chips in the mix, it felt like they were added to mask the bland flavor or strange aftertaste. That said, the pancakes are easy to prepare since you simply add water. Some ingredients, like canola oil and tapioca starch, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets. Simple Truth is a Kroger brand and found at Kroger stores.

Net carbs: 4 grams net carb for mix (45 grams) and finished pancakes
Kroger rating: 4 out of 5 total stars (not on Amazon)

Ingredients: Blanched Almond Flour, Dark Chocolate Chips (Unsweetened Chocolate, Dextrin, Erythritol, Sunflower Lecithin, Stevia Extract, Natural Flavor), Whole Dried Eggs, Erythritol, Whey Protein Concentrate, Organic Coconut Flour, Pumpkin Protein, Canola Oil, Baking Powder (Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Baking Soda, Corn Starch, Monocalcium Phosphate), Buttermilk Powder, Bakers Cheese (Nonfat Dry Milk, Lactic Acid, Cultures), Natural Vanilla Flavor, Salt, Tapioca Starch, Xanthan Gum, Monk Fruit.

    Pros:

    • Only need to add water for mix

    Cons:

    • Thicker batter with too many chocolate chips that is hard to spread into pancake
    • Bland in flavor with strange aftertaste
    • Some ingredients, like canola oil, buttermilk powder, tapioca starch, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets
    • Only at Kroger stores

    6. Birch Benders Keto Pancake Mix

Image of Birch Benders bag of pancakes

Birch Bender's pancake mix is nearly everywhere, so it's usually not a problem finding their keto-friendly pancake mix. It's a thicker batter that's somewhat difficult to make into decent pancakes. Unfortunately, we didn't appreciate the flavor or texture of the pancakes. The pancakes have a strange, even sour flavor and the texture is grainy and dense. Some ingredients, like cassava starch and buttermilk, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets.

Net carbs: 5 grams net carbs for mix (35 grams) and finished pancakes
Amazon rating: 4.2 out of 5 total stars

Ingredients: Almond Flour, Eggs, Tigernut Flour, Organic Coconut Flour, Cassava Starch, Buttermilk, Leavening (Monocalcium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Salt, Spice.

    Pros:

    • Available at many grocers
    • Just need to add water for mix

    Cons:

    • Thick batter; grainy in texture
    • Strange flavor; sourish
    • Some ingredients, like cassava starch and buttermilk, may not be appropriate for strict keto diets

    7. Lakanto Keto Pancake & Baking Mix

IMage of lakanto bag of pancakes

Lakanto pancake mix produces a thicker, sticky batter (likely due to added fiber) that makes it harder to produce regular pancakes. To make the pancakes, you need eggs, water, oil and vanilla extract. Unfortunately, we found the the taste and texture a little off. The pancakes are dense and dry and rather flavorless. The ingredients include tapioca starch, so the mix may not be appropriate for those on a strict keto diet. However, they are low in net carbs.

Net carbs: 1 gram net carbs for mix (35 grams) and 1 gram net carbs with added ingredients
Amazon rating: 4 out of 5 total stars

Ingredients: Almond Flour, Monkfruit Sweetener (Erythritol and Monk Fruit Extract), Pea Protein, Sugarcane Fiber, Tapioca Starch, Baking Powder, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt.

    Pros:

    • Low in net carbs (1 gram net carbs for finished pancakes)
    • Available at some larger grocers like Walmart and Safeway

    Cons:

    • Flavorless, strange aftertaste
    • Texture not quite right: dense, dry, more biscuit-like
    • Ingredients include tapioca starch, which may not be appropriate for strict keto diets
    • Expensive: $15.44 for 16 ounces on Amazon
