Making dinner can become even more hectic when you need to prepare a healthy side dish. But not when you make this quick and easy 5-minute steamed broccoli with lemon garlic butter.

Steaming broccoli in the microwave is one of the quickest and easiest ways to prepare broccoli -- and one of the healthiest! And, steaming broccoli in the microwave is just as delicious as steaming it over the stovetop.

To steam the broccoli in the microwave, we simply follow the directions from The Kitchn. Basically, you wash a head of broccoli and cut into bite-size florets. Then, put the florets in a microwave safe bowl with a few tablespoons of water and microwave for 3 to 4 minutes. Now, that's simple.

The lemon garlic butter is just as simple. With that, you simply mix together softened butter along with minced garlic, salt and lemon zest.

We love this keto-friendly side dish since you can serve as a side at a casual family meal or a more formal gathering. This keto broccoli side dish is just 2.5 net carbs per serving.

    Ingredients

    • 8 ounces broccoli cut into bite-size florets
    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • 1 clove garlic minced
    • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
    • Salt to taste

    Instructions

    • Microwave broccoli: Wash one head of broccoli and cut into bite-size florets. Measure 8 ounces of broccoli and save remaining broccoli for future use. Put florets in medium to large microwavable bowl and add 2 tablespoons of water. Cover the bowl with a plate which doesn't allow any gaps. Microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes. Check to see if done by tasting (be careful not to burn yourself when removing plate). Microwave longer if needed.
    • Prepare lemon garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, lemon zest until thoroughly combined. Add salt to taste.
    • Finish and serve: When done, remove broccoli from bowl tongs. Plate broccoli and top with lemon garlic butter. Season with additional salt as needed.
